Masquerade de Nocturne opened to a full house on January 20th 2007.
With a bare minimum of snafus during setup, including a balky music server and a costumer roster that fell apart during the awards, the Pinata Riders Reunion was smashing entertainment for all ages.
Headlining our performances and taking away Best Humor-Ensemble was the first-ever ConFusion cosplay stage effort, an entry entitled ’The Brak Show’ designed by Megan Niedergeses. The Brak Show was denied an encore by gremlins of lost paperwork but we want to make sure that we make up for it by tipping our hats to them first in this humble followup. Photos of the troupe are forthcoming so stay tuned for new links.
Once again for 2007, Jim Frenkel of TOR Books drove out and delivered a selection of Hardcover books including a Collected Works of Fred Pohl, Christopher Priest’s THE PRESTIGE, A SHADOW IN SUMMER by Daniel Abraham, and even an advance proof of Steven Harper’s UNITY. All of our Best Ensemble contestants had a pick from the selection - Thanks Jim!
The Confusion Dealers contributed Shopping Spree funds (this year called LUNAR RUBLES) for prizes to the four stream winners:
Honorary Master - 50 Lunar Rubles for DARTH REVAN, junior novice.
Best of Show - 50 Lunar Rubles for DROW - DARK ELF designed by Kelly Dattilo, Master with Technical Accomplishment honors.
Junk Pile Wars - 25 Lunar Rubles. (check back for info)
Hall Costumer/Cosplay - 25 Lunar Rubles (check back for more info)
All of our genre winners received trophy, dibs on the event DVD and a photo session - and are invited to blog with us on pinatariders.org. All of this and more when we have full use of our fingers. A full page of credits and awards for everyone who appeared will be linked as soon as it’s ready.
Additional Genre Winners
Best Humor Individual and Best Junior Costume - TEENAGER by Blake Hammond
Many thanks to Blasted Bill and Keith Kurek, for rescuing the sound system, DJ Brick for Lighting de Nocturne, our Showtime Gophers (hi Justin) for setting up and doing ticket-taker duties for the door prizes, Shark for hosting JPW with Mia, Lynne, Jennifer, and Barb for joining the Muster Patrol, some at the eleventh hour.
Profuse thanks to Diane Frkan for filling in for a last-minute judge opening, and Red and all the judges for not stringing me up outright for botching the score for the Brak’s!
Special thanks to GENEVIEVE CHASE, for upstaging our MC Davroz by opening our show with a rosy glow. Flying effects by Joy Rosenberry-Chase.
Oh, and Shark, your mother was a mule. And you loved the spotlight. Face it.
Adieu,
freon
