I just wanted to mention that you were very helpful at the panel for 'about the masqurade' and informative for a first time costumer. Thanks for helping to make it more fun!

I think you guys did a great job hosting the Masquerade. I just have one suggestion. I think the Green "Suggested Rules" should be taken out of the packet. Honestly it was a bit of a downer to open the packet and find 37 rules (The first 3 nearly being identical).

I think it could be intimidating especially to new costumers. They may feel after reading the list that if their shoes don't match or their costume isn't perfect they shouldn't even compete.

After talking with you guys at the "Rip it and Stick it" Panel I felt a lot more comfortable about competing because it was a lot more about the fun of it, and trying new things.

I may be more sensitive to this having dealt with SCA Garb Nazi's and seeing how they can ruin the fun for everyone. I don't mean to be a downer myself, I really thing you did a great job of running things. Just one suggestion that might help encourage more people to enter. Especially those who are trying it for the first time.

..oh, and those rules are older than dirt. They can be entertaining but I see your point - Rotsler's Rules aren't 'ours' by a long shot.
~freon

This was my first time doing the Masquerade, I usually don't compete because I just do it for fun of it. Thanks to everyone for being friendly back stage, it helped me not be so nervous. My goal was to just enjoy myself, which I did.

Gee, I just wished I could have really lit up that cigar!! :)

I am rather excited to find out why I got Best In Show. I really wasn't expecting it! (It's awesome though!!)

Easy answer: You pulled in two 1st place votes, which totaled 66 points.
Eye-Vanna and the 'Holidays Come to Con' tied at 55 points each and lightning round gave Eye-Vanna the edge for second.
So everyone knows, we saw another tie for fourth, between Starbuck and Death - each at 11 points. Curiously, those two Re-creation entries had split the judges on points, and since the Genre Awards must be unanimous, the Judges agreed on Best Re-creation honors for Chun-Li. Go figure.

It's already Thursday and you don't have a costume yet? Not a problem! You are an intrepid Pinatarider and can turn anything into a costume even on the shortest notice.

Now, let's not lie, it gets a bit harder to be prepared if you don't have some of the appropriate equipment - so hit the Bargain Bins anywhere - even your own closets. You never know, you might be able to create Spaghetti Man from items in your kitchen.

Or, Broomhilda from just a mop and pail - well a fitting outfit would probably be warranted - but you might already have what's needed in your closet.

Check out the garage for duct tape and boxes. Bubbleman made an appearance, where was Box Boy?

I'm going to be real disappointed if no Pinatariders show their originality when they are running the show!

Disclaimer: I am a substitute writer since everyone else is busily prepping to run the Masquerade. I have temporarily taken over the blog and am enjoying ultimate power! Bwahahaha!

FYI it looks like we survived the masquerade. The Penguicon 5.0 Masquerade hit the stage at 8:07 pm and wrapped at almost precisely 9pm - thanks to our entire crew and the gaggle of volunteers we nabbed for the show.

If you competed, judged, attended and enjoyed, or worked for the show on Saturday, please consider subscribing to the site or link us when you talk about your experience to others. You know I personally appreciate this.

More notes and official credits in the followup post and the Penguicon masquerade page here (under construction). Thanks Melissa for being home base!

While we wait I can post the Tour De Nocturne Track list, which is a listing of the music we used this time at the masquerade.
