ConFusion 19100 (2000)

Jump Back!   It’s ConFusion 19100! Well, folks, if you’re reading this I can assume two things: 1) the world DID NOT end last month, as predicted, and 2) you found your way to Warren for the twenty-sixth installment of SF/Fantasy’s annual ConFusion.   Welcome.ConFusion stands as Michigan’s premier SF Con.   Its membership has neared or topped a thousand pretty consistently for a number of years, and I am hard-pressed to recall a bad time in the ten years I’ve attended.   ConFusion, as you may well know, started it all.  It’s grown mightily from humble beginnings with Ro Nagey’s RelaxaCon in 1974 to the spectacle you see around you.   Local talent and international celebrities alike have graced these halls, and I assure you that this year is no exception.   And, as the Operations guy this year, I am at your service, as always.Kicking off the Piñata-ridden events this year is a stab at the music business with the Friday Night Fannish Karaoke Sing-along, which features state-of-the-art technology to make the most tone-deaf phony sound like Celine Dion and Harry Connick Jr. in a blender.  Er… Well, you get the idea.In addition, I am given to understand, ConFusion’s traditional Secret Judges will be marauding the Masquerade this year, which will be MC’d by our favorite DJ and a Guest of Honor, Mr. Dennis Tabaczewski.   As the lore goes, the costumers who put on the wildest garb and/or show for these clandestine mystery-judges score some sort of prize, and personal experience holds that once they are discovered, these judges can be bribed.   Who says you don’t get anything useful out of this magazine?Anyway, enjoy yourself at ConFusion, and take a trip down to Ops sometime and see if I’m still conscious.   This time around I seem to have given up my prime spot under the munchie table for a high-visibility gig.Cheers,

~freon
